We were invited to see @murderplayuk in @everymanchelt and we had high expectations when we saw the cast for this show. It’s got a number of famous names including Max Bowden and Jason Durr, and Susie Blake, there’s incredible amount of talent on stage, let’s get that noted.
However; the play itself unfortunately, lacked the comedy element and dark humour with only Susie Blake’s Character having some laugh out moments; as she plays a nutty mother. (If you see the show you’ll know how it plays out at the end). The show starts with a murder, with only one survivor; you’d of thought it’s the obvious choice/character it is not.
Unfortunately act 1: Drags, and lacks any entertainment; with scenes taking place in several rooms of the house with no real clear cuts, also I over heard an audience member last night quite clearly state that the girl who is upstairs in the bedroom talking, is confusing; I must say, you’ve got to use your imagination to know it’s a mirror, but this could be better displayed perhaps with a mirror shape on the wall or mirrorless, so that it gives the impression as only she really indicates she uses it. Even Max Bowdens character who is in the bedroom for a raunchy scene doesn’t really indicate either for a mirror; it’s a bit miss mash.
The second act; feels rushed with the drama all condensed to the last 15 minutes with gun shots (yes, if you’re jumpy it’s probably worth being advised there’s a few) and fake blood, to represent death, feels all a tad silly as if the ending was “we’ve got 15 minutes how are we going to wrap it up”. Unfortunately; the excellent talent is let down by a poorly written script.
Overall, if you like a laugh and don’t take the story too serious. The show will be for you. I was sadly disappointed as I was really looking forward to seeing this performance last night.
Overall 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ and that’s for the talent alone.
