On Tuesday night we were invited to see Believe: The Cher Songbook in Cheltenham at the Everyman Theatre.
After last seeing Charlotte and the band in Truro back in what I believe was 2024 we were keen to get back to support her as we loved seeing her when she was on stage in Truro and I believe we first saw her in Windsor. We've been eagerly monitoring the socials for her return, so as you can imagine, when we got notification that she was back in Cheltenham, we'd just had to jump at the chance for tickets.
The one good thing about Believe The Cher Songbook is that we can record and share photos from the night, and lets say, Charlotte's performance on the night was incredible and such worth sharing and taking photos of the performance. It was also very nice to see some pyrotechnics for a few songs which added to the live show value...
As you can see the show has some incredible and interesting costume choices and as per the interview with Charlotte you can see that they are very out there and the wow factor, also Charlotte mentioned in the interview that there was no silence bits in-between costume changes and that is very true.
The incredible band that play alongside Charlotte keep the audience entertained whilst Charlotte changes to the next costume and the songs flow quick and fast. Obviously there was some slight pauses, but this was purely so that the band and Charlotte could rehydrate in between numbers which I believe Charlotte mentioned on stage it was very warm under the stage lighting, which must have been true with the floor fan to the side of the stage, although the Auditorium temperature was kept comfortable, the last time we visited Cheltenham when the outside was unbearably hot, was when the Titanic was playing, (I am Sure if it was done with a real iceberg it would have melted by the time it got to the interval), anyway back to Cher...
One thing that Charlotte made clear was, that this wasn't a carbon copy of Cher, it was a celebration of her music and incredible career and I am sure with the amount of hits Cher had it was a hard choice to choose which numbers went into it and which numbers were a miss...
Towards the end of the first act, the band struck up a very familiar number, which James and I knew straight away what it was, forever being Bat Out Of Hell Fans, we were delighted to hear Charlotte and Oliver, sing Dead Ringer for Love, and I am sure the rest of the audience loved it. I know my mum who we took along really enjoyed the evening.
I am so glad Charlotte kept the Meat Loaf song in, as this was such a big hit from Cher and Meat Loaf and is so iconic.
The audience took some encouragement to get up and dance and have a sing a long, I must say, a well respected audience in Cheltenham Everyman; but once they got going they were really enjoying the show, I think almost everyone came out of the show really enjoying the performance and talent on stage.
And yes! Unlike some shows, no backing tracks, all live, all really well put together, A show that could honestly have been so much longer as I was enjoying it so much with James and Mum we didn't want it to end!
I usually don't reference standout performances, or songs, but I know I mentioned Dead Ringer for the end of the first act, the second act had a section from Burlesque, which is new to Charlottes show and I think took everyone by surprise, she chose a few songs from it, but the one I thought worked the best and sounded incredible in this set was "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me". The emotion, the band, and audience reaction gave me goosebumps, Being able to film the performance too, so many people, picked up their phones to document what was a great song and sung so brilliantly to document what a great choice.
Overall, a great night. One of the best shows we've seen in a long while and I am so grateful to Everyman Cheltenham for allowing us to come along and review the show and see how their one night performances are received. This one, went down incredibly well and yes, We will be eagerly waiting for Charlotte to announce some new dates for the show, and we will post them via our social media pages as soon as we are aware of any.
Gifted Invite, Thanks to Encore PR and Everyman Cheltenham for allowing us to attend.
