This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
On Tuesday we were invited to Everyman Cheltenham to see "Come From Away" which is a amateur performance that has been put together for 1 week only at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.

For those who don't know the show was originally created in Broadway, before coming into the West End a couple of years and then bringing back for a UK and Ireland tour, however is now under license for amateur performances.
Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travellers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

The show runs for about 100 minutes with no interval and you wouldn't be able to run this show with an interval due to the quick movement of this storyline and the tracks to keep a steady flow going. However; in the show it tells the story about a community comes together to provide support and shelter and food for those who were stranded on Gander when planes were diverted to Gander due to the 9/11 attack in 2001.
There's plenty of songs from the touring production with Me And The Sky, Welcome To The Rock and 38 Planes, are some of the many tracks that are in the show and has a very strong cast who sing the songs incredibly well and tell the story with comedy and heartwarming moments.
Personally for me, there was a few elements in the show that could be better; For example, the lighting for some of the characters weren't lite up when they were singing, there was no follow spots for the main characters, which is something the main show didn't do, but would have helped for some of the lines in the show, when you are sat in the audience trying to work out where it was coming from. There was many moments where the sound quality was very low and the sound person could have turned up the mics and the backing tracks so that us at the back could hear some of the spoken content along with giving the big numbers a chance to standout. This slightly let down the incredibly talented cast from being able to be heard at the back of the auditorium.
Also, there was a number called Me and The Sky where the audio of the lady singing the main number wasn't able to be heard during the strong numbers, as she was drowned out by the backing singers, which in some respect I don't understand why this was the case due to the fact that when it toured in the UK and Ireland and in the West End this wasn't something that was done and was in some parts quite distracting and let the song down. I am sure if the mic was louder along with the band being louder then this may/could have worked. I do think this was opening night gremlins that have been since resolved.
This was good to see an amateur performance of this show as James said he was missing the comedy and songs of this show so, when Everyman had this on its "What's On" we wanted to see it to see how the amateur group would put this on.
