Sunday night is concert night for us this time in Cheltenham; Sunday 18th October Halloween in Concert took over the Everyman Cheltenham, for what is advertised as a 2 hour spectacular show... Now; did it live up to its advert?
Our thoughts?
The show started at 7.30pm with a random slow number to welcome audience members in, which then stopped abruptly and went into a lively "Hungry Like The Wolf" number; now; if I was being honest, it would have been better ditching the slow number for a lively upbeat number to get the audience going; I observed a few around us looking confused with the opening of the show.
Fear not, it gets better and albeit a few sound issues in the first act making it impossible to at times hear some of the lyrics; the show was full of great graphics and backgrounds on the digital screens they brought with them; which was definitely required to help showcase the Halloween theme. Fortunately, I recognised some of the cast members on the stage from the Rock Anthems LIVE so I know there vocals were going to be incredible.
A few songs that they had in the first act made me think "Oh, ok... I thought this was a Halloween Show", but you could see the Halloween references. The costumes though were impressive and the band really got involved with the show.
Second act started with Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell; Unfortunately not the 11 minute version; but we did get graced with a great rendition of it, before throwing into Dead Ringer For Love; obviously knew James and I loved Meat Loaf or just a coincidence... However; it was great as we could have a sing a long to it.
Second act also had one stand out moment in my eyes; The lady who sang "Bad Romance" was incredible... She stole the second act with a big solo number; there were many, but in my eyes, this was the best one and I could have jumped to my feet to cheer; I knew from seeing the artist in Rock Anthem Show a year previously had a great performance voice! I believe there is 2 casts on this show, so you'll need to double check who the casting are for each show. Although; with the Entertainers, you are guaranteed a great night and strong vocals.
I do love the Time Warp medley, with the nod to Tim Curry who died earlier this year. It was very thoughtful and really nice. I have to mention the young girl who was sat in front of us really getting involved and doing every steps for Time Warp, when the audience jumped to their feet, she followed the cast on stage and follow the instructions of the dance routine. It was fantastic and brought a smile to our faces.
We had a great night out and it is worth seeing; it's a throw back down memory lane, of some great songs from various decades, a couple of 80s numbers and some classic Halloween Numbers. Entertainers, certainly know how to put on a show.
